Three little things

I had started this article with the sincere intention of waking people up and reminding them of the short memories they have. This week clearly signifies the apathy of us as a public and our ability to swallow anything we are fed . The three incidents are:

Incident 1:

The police in Bandra Reclamation and now Thane Upvan have cracked down on PDA ( no not that little thing makes a bulge in your pocket but Public Display of Affection).

They are now rounding up couples who they feel are touching each other in ways that make the people around them uncomfortable. Now as far as I know if a woman was to shake hands with her husband in a village in the interior of Maharashtra in front of her inlaws she would "make them uncomfortable". Perhaps she should be arrested too.

But thats not the incident, the incident Dear New Police Commissioner , is Mr. Sunil More a shining example of the police force with more than 40 reprimands to his credit.

The sixty four million dollar question is where do you think they take these couples "making others uncomfortable." You got it.........the police chowky.

We all know what happened the last time an so called amorous couple was taken to the police chowky by a cop, they were 16 years old or so, the cop demanded money to let them go, while the boy went to arrange the money, the cop told the boy he would hold the girl as surety, and a few minutes later we jump cut to the cop coming out of the chowky saying "ukhad sakte ho to ukhad lo"---- crudely means do your worst and in literal translation means pull it out if you can. Unfortunately no one took him up on his suggestion and pulled out his pecker on the spot. Or Ukhaado-ed it as it goes.

Post rape we have the following bullet points:
1) The victim a 16 year old was traumatised for life

2) Millions lost what little faith they had in Mumbai's police force

3) The joker posed for photographs smiling even in the police van he was taken away in.

4) Samnaa newspaper said that girls were asking for it by wearing low cut jeans

5) The daughter in law of Bal Thakeray, the person who writes that "girls are asking for it due to the clothes they wear" continues to make movies with almost fully nude women. (perhaps her father in law will condone the rape of all those women too)

6) Pramod Navalkar got on his soap box and said in his days , girls did not even go from Ghatkopar to Bandra ( I think it was Bandra or some area to that effect) - Mr Navalkar I have news for you, they now go to Pune and Goa too if not across the world.

Just after the rape, the MLA Raj Purohit had suggested that he would donate a completely transparent glass chowky so that this incident would not repeat itself.

Mr. Purohit, since women are being dragged into chowkies again, perhaps its time to donate that chowky before we have another rape.

Afterthought: As I have said before, we Indians like to hide away our dirty linen, that is why the Marine Drive Chowky was pulled down so that the Police force could forget the shame.

I would suggest a contrary option. I would suggest we put up a plaque at the location of this chowky so that this shameful incident is never forgotten and that the police commissioner everytime he crosses that plaque gets a nasty reminder of what happens when his boys get a free hand.

Incident 2

I saw a small article as regards the reservation issue which as usual our heros the Supreme court played a role in. It seems we are a nation which loves doing things exactly opposite to what the world does.

For years, we fought as a nation to get ourselves a developed nation status. For us being a developing nation was a stigma. We finally got it, just to have our citizens run to get certificates that in the "developed" nation they are backward citizens.

I have nothing against the reservation, I absolutely support it with one provisio. If a person wishes to show he is backward and he proudly proclaims his backwardness to get a medical seat, then he must display the symbols of his caste with the same pride.

I therefore propose that all those people who take advantage of the OBC reservation must wear the tribal dresses to their classes in the colleges etc.

We will then know whos truely backward and whos using it as an excuse.

In the same vein, we have the muslims in UP now proclaiming that they are a minority. Anywhere else in the world , if a minority rises beyond a minority , its a cause for celebration. In India , we get public outcries of people wanting to be a minority, wanting to be seperate from the majority. Can you guess why? --- "because they would lose the sops given to minorities".

Please please lets stop this freeloading whether it is sops to minorities or reservations for backward castes who wear shirts and suits.

Lets stop these games that politicians play with referring to backdated cenus to determine whos backward whos not. (If that was the case India would still be called a developing country rather than one which is the apple of the worlds eye as the next location to open a new chain of stores)

Incident 3

Today I saw an article that there are gold pilgrim cards being issued at the Shirdi Temple. I don't understand this, every religion tells you to be meek, every religion tells you to leave the attachments for worldly things behind.

Then guess what, we get hit by this, a GOLD card, a sign of prestige, a sign that you are a BHAKT above other BHAKTS. Kabirs says " Tan man taakyo dijiae, jakyo vakyaae no koi" - Give your alligience to a guru who has no entity of his own.

( Shirdi Sai baba was a guru not a god , we often tend to deify our gurus to Godly status)

This card entitles you to free prasad 3 times a year delivered to your doorstep.

You dont even need to visit the temple anymore, for the right amount (Rs.50,000/- I think they're saying is the qualifying amount) God and ergo Moksh makes house calls.

What next, Platinum cards, for 1% of the ones in the gold card class ( who donate 50 lakhs or so) OR the last resort a Black Shirdi card ---given to those who donate 10 crores and above. So that everytime the person opens his wallet, his friends will know what a religious man he is.

A black Am-ex is the ultimate sign that a person has made it , it is issued by invitation only to a very very select few normally a person of celebrity status.
